Answers to your Fall Portrait questions

General Session Information

Clothing suggestions - the most important part of any picture are the people in the image. Clothing, posing and background all come second. Clothing should be simple and shouldn't become a distraction. For that reason, clothing that creates unity and ties everyone together helps to create harmony in the image.

Darker colored clothing, solid colors all work really well. Colors from the same family of colors work well together. So browns and oranges, rusty colors all look great in the fall. They can be slightly different shades but will still look unified. The thing to avoid is one person standing out more than the others.

Classic white button downs with jeans is a simple combination that everyone can pull together. Black button downs or black turtle necks and blue jeans or khakis always look really great too. Brown or oatmeal sweaters with blue jeans is another good combination and lets people get a bit of variety in the color palette.

If it's really cold - don't forget to accessorize with hats and scarves. If you wear a jacket over everything that we can keep taking on and off between locations, that will really help.

Changing clothes - don't plan to bring a whole different wardrobe as we will only have a rudimentary changing room at the farm. But if you want a variety of clothes, think about different sweaters or button down shirts that can be worn with the same undershirt and pants.

Arrive early - if you booked one of our special portrait days, we will be booking sessions back to back, so please plan to arrive early to make the most of your time. If you do arrive late, we will try to accommodate you if there are other openings available, but we will not bump any sessions to squeeze you in.

Rescheduling - you can reschedule your session at any time but obviously the more notice you can give us, the better. October 4th bookings can be rescheduled on October 18th if openings are available. If you need to reschedule to a different date completely then we won't be able to honor the shorter session lengths so you'll have to upgrade to a regular portrait session.

Rain dates - if the weather on the day is not fit for outdoor portraits (as judged by my sensitive camera gear) you will have the option to keep the same date/time appointment but hold the session at the studio instead. We will also be able to reschedule an outdoor session at another time.

Cancellations - if you need to cancel completely, you'll get a full refund of your deposit if you cancel with more than 48 hours notice. Within 48 hours, we charge a $30 fee.

Cedar Gate Farm

We have a very special relationship with the owners of Cedar Gate Farm who have been kind enough to let us use their property for a number of years. We don't want to abuse our friendship with the owners so we ask that you abide by the following rules for your own safety as well as the safety of the animals on the farm.

No Smoking - the buildings are made of wood and many contain hay. So please, no smoking anywhere on the premises.

No Pets - unlike our other fall portrait sessions, we ask that you not bring your family pets to Cedar Gate Farm as having unfamiliar dogs may spook the resident animals.

Don't approach animals - the farm houses horses and chickens. The horses are older animals and their vision is not as good as it used to be, so they do get spooked easily. A startled horse can easily injure itself or someone standing nearby.

No loud noises or running - again, we want to avoid startling the animals to avoid stress and possible injury.

No climbing - please don't climb on any farm equipment or enter any buildings without our guidance - some of the items on display at the farm are for show only and are not strong enough to sit on and use as props. Many of them also contain rusty or sharp points that could cause injury. We will guide you to safe spots that can be used.

Liability - we will ask you to sign a waiver so that Cedar Gate Farms and it's representatives are not held liable in the event of an accident or injury. Enduring Images Photography will be the responsible party.
